Birmingham

Today we traveled from Tallahassee to Birmingham where I grew up. Debbie had insisted on this route so that she could see the place that I spent my childhood... perhaps she hoped it would shed some light on why I am the way I am. The weather was great, no rain all day but very warm (hot), approaching 100 degrees by late afternoon. We have yet to run into others traveling to Sturgis, but the bike is a magnet for attention at gas stops. Besides visiting my old house and schools I took her to a park on Red Mountain that overlooks the city. I failed to take into consideration Debbie's extreme and undeniable fear of heights. She was fine until we took the elevator to the top of the observatory which turned out to be not enclosed. She clung to the wall the entire time and was happy to return to the relative safety of the bike.
