Friday August 3

Friday we traveled from Peducah Ky to St Louis and on to somewhere near KC. One of our side trips was to be a brief stop at the Arch in St Louis. As it turned out this side trip cost us about 3 hours, near heat exhaustion and a good bit of stress. We already know that one of Debbie's phobias is heights, so I knew that we were not riding to the top of the Arch, but we thought it would be a neat thing to see...and it was spectacular! We also called Adam and Michelle from the web cam and they were able to see us there on line.

But getting there and then getting out of town proved to be an exhausting and nerve racking experience. The hills in the city, along with cobblestone streets, bridges (fear of heights) and bad directions makes downtown St Louis less than a perfect destination for those traveling on two wheels, and we ended up in the midst of rush hour traffic. This turned out to be our most challenging day yet, mainly due to the heat and traffic. By the time we were ready to stop for the night we were faced with no vacancy signs until we found one Travelodge so run down that even the most desperate would pass it up... we took it, although we passed on the free breakfast... We did meet some apparently normal folks from N. C. heading in our same direction while checking out the next morning.
